Time to play which song sucks more.

All of the songs here suck but it’s a matter of degree. Last week Brian Ferrey actually threatened our friendship because I dissed Vicki Lawrence. That was unfortunate on several levels.

Okay, let’s get to it.

Spirit In the Sky, 1968 Norman Greenbaum vs. Indian Nation, 1971 Paul Revere and The Raiders
There’s something wrong about a band named after a Revolutionary War hero seeing about Native American troubles. It’s also a horrible song. Both of these tunes get in your head and can’t be extracted without surgery. Indian nation sucks more.

Elvira, Oak Ridge Boys, 1981 vs. Achy Breaky Heart, Billy Ray Cyrus, 1993
Sometimes Cyrus sounds just a little bit like an Elvis impersonator and I don’t know if that’s a plus. The Oak ridge Boys were just plain weird. They had that lead singer in need of serious orthodontics and the guy who rolled with that homeless long beard look. For simple annoyance levels nothing can beat Elvira. I hate that song. Achy Breaky teeters on the so-bad-its-good guilty pleasure status though it just doesn’t quite get there. Elvira sucks more

Maneater, Hall & Oates,1982 vs. We Didn’t Start the Fire, Billy Joel,1989

Blue-eyed mullet wearer

Billy Joel can be really good. I think really really good. Then he can be really really sucky. This is as sucky as it gets. I hated Maneater when it came out. I hate it more now. daryl Hall’s look didn’t help. It sucks…a lot. Maneater is worse.
